Does your little one have difficulty communicating or pronouncing words clearly? I can help.
I'm Cristina Schmidt, a licensed speech-language pathologist in the state of Texas and certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
I received my Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010 and my Masters of Science in CSD from Baylor University in 2012.
I'm a diligent, hard worker who loves being playful and silly whenever possible. I've known I wanted to be a speech pathologist since I was 12 years old. Working with little ones has been, quite literally, my dream come true.
I've been an SLP for 10 years, specializing in the areas of:
In addition to my years of clinical experience, I'm also trained in:
I have broad experience working in clinical settings, early-childhood intervention, home-health, and public schools (AISD, Leander ISD, Manor ISD, Hays CISD).
Therapy should be fun. To the greatest extent possible, the services I provide are play-based. I make a concerted effort to ensure that every therapy session I have with your little one is highly tailored to their needs and preferences.
By design, my practice is very small so that I can spend all of my clinical time, energy, and mental resources planning and preparing each therapy session for your individual child.
My therapy services also provide excellent complimentary support to therapies your child may already be receiving in school or in a clinic. I'm a big believer in helping children improve their communication skills as quickly as possible. My one-on-one, in-home services help facilitate that progress.
I've spent more than a decade becoming an expert in teaching small children how to communicate, speak, and be understood by others.
That expertise is best applied with a very small caseload of one-on-one sessions with little ones in their home environment, with the support of their families.
My standards are high and my level of service is exceptional.
I look forward to talking with you about how I can help improve your little one's speech.
I accept payment by cash, check, credit card, and Venmo.
I do not accept insurance.
I can provide a Superbill (Statement for Insurance Reimbursement). Some insurance plans will reimburse for out-of-network services. You can call your insurance company to ask about your out-of-network benefits and what percentage, if any, your plan will cover. I can provide a handout to help guide you through the phone call if necessary.
I offer in-home services to families in the Lake Travis area (Lakeway, Bee Cave, and surrounding areas)
I am available for speech and language screenings, evaluations, and therapy sessions in your home on Saturdays & Sundays.
A personalized schedule can be discussed. To review your options, email, call, or text me at (512) 222-7467.

Three Things:
1. I will ask you some questions, such as:
2. I will do my best to answer any questions you have. I cannot make a determination during this consult (ex: "Your child is fine. There's no need for speech services." or "Your child definitely needs speech therapy"). Ethically, I cannot make this kind of determination without conducting an evaluation.
What I CAN do, is provide some general guidelines of what speech and language skills are expected for children their age to help guide your decision on whether or not to proceed with an evaluation.
3. Based on your answers and questions, I will offer my recommendation for next steps, such as:
To schedule your consult, email, call, or text me at (512) 222-7467. Consults are held over the phone or in person depending on our schedules and your location.
I offer speech and language screenings for children ages 2 to 7. A screening typically lasts 10-20 minutes. It's a quick test of some common skills we expect children of your little one's age to be demonstrating.
A screening is a useful tool to help gauge whether or not a longer, full speech and language evaluation is recommended.
The $75 fee for each screening includes the screening, a written recommendation, and a follow-up consult to discuss results, professional recommendations, and next steps. If the screening indicates that further assessment is needed, the cost of the screening may be applied toward the cost of evaluation.
An evaluation ($400) typically lasts 1-2 hours, based on your child's needs.
It includes:
A review with you of your child's history and development.
Structured and/or unstructured assessment in the following areas of my expertise:
Informal observational assessment in all other areas of speech development:
Oral Motor Exam
Dynamic Assessment (Trial Therapy)
Preliminary results will be shared with parents at the time of the evaluation.
A full evaluation report will be written and electronically delivered to parents through the secure online patient portal within 48 hours of the end of the evaluation. I will call to review the results, any questions you might have, and my recommendations.
*If your child has received a speech/language evaluation within the last 6 months from another SLP, I can review that evaluation and most likely use that report (instead of conducting a new evaluation) to help guide therapeutic interventions.
Therapy sessions are scheduled for 30 minutes ($100) or 60 minutes ($150) based on the needs of your child and your family.
Based on current research, I recommend in-home therapy for most young children.
Therapy sessions include:
Within 24 hours of each therapy session, you will receive a written note about what happened during the therapy session, including:
You lucky parents!

*time management skills so that each child gets the most from the therapy session
*the understanding of when to push a child to the next level and when to back off to avoid frustration
*the ability to explain a child’s disability in understandable terms, plan for parent involvement and give gentle feedback
And that’s what you have with Cristina Schmidt!
I’ve both worked with Cristina as a speech language pathologist and known her as a friend. She is one in a million and you are so lucky to have her.
During the 2018-19 school year, Mrs. Cristina Schmidt worked for our school district as a Dual Language Speech Therapist at my campus, Bagdad Elementary School.
During that year, Cristina worked with students in my Early Childhood class, ranging in ages 3-6 years old, and demonstrated exceptional skills in the following areas.
● Positive interactions with students and staff
● Implementation of appropriate strategies in assisting students with their individual needs
● Willingness to assist other students or other programs when needed
● Providing speech therapy to bilingual students in Spanish and English
From the very start of working with the students in my class, Mrs. Schmidt demonstrated positive energy, initiative and motivation in her role as the speech therapist. She was always focused on each student individually and extremely flexible, always stepping into “their world” whether it would be during play, a class activity, game, or direct lesson. She worked on student’s goals any way she could and the students loved her! It was great to see the progress and growth our students made while working with her. As the classroom teacher, I appreciated collaborating with her, as well as her being able to contribute ideas and/or strategies to assist students or brainstorming solutions to problems. Cristina was a great support to me and the entire Early Childhood team.
Mrs. Schmidt communicates well with those she works with and has a good rapport with her student’s families and other staff members. She is always pleasant to be around and very committed to those she is helping. I highly recommend Cristina Schmidt as a speech therapist.
I met Cristina Schmidt in 2016 when I was the Lead Speech/Language Pathologist (SLP) in Leander ISD. She applied for a position as a campus SLP in our district. During the interview, I remember being struck by her calm demeanor and thoughtful responses to questions. Even during that brief interaction, it was evident that Cristina is a caring person with wisdom beyond her years.
During the three school years that Cristina worked in Leander ISD, that first impression was borne out. She proved herself to be a dedicated therapist and strong team member. She was a respected and beloved member of campus teams and the SLP team. Cristina worked hard to establish a rapport with students, parents, and staff. It was evident that she truly cared about her students and consistently put effort into finding approaches that were effective, engaging and fun.
Cristina worked with students from Preschool through 8th grade and did a great job with all of them. She especially enjoyed working with preschool age students by engaging them in fun and effective therapy activities. Cristina was skilled when it comes to prioritizing the many tasks of a campus SLP. She utilized excellent organizational skills when completing tasks thoroughly and efficiently. She recognized the importance of prompt and clear communication with parents and staff and she was efficient when conducting thorough evaluations. She provided clear evaluation reports that contained helpful information for parents and team members so an appropriate plan was developed for the student.
As an SLP, Cristina has the rare gift of balancing intellect with heart. She honors the importance of connection and prioritizes the relationship with child and family in all she does. She is a dedicated and effective SLP who truly loves her work. I recommend her without reservation.
